- God’s Call to Prepare
Revelation 1:1-3 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that reads, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
We open the book of Revelation, and there before us are a few things we need to consider before we try and interpret what John saw in the vision he received from the angel God sent to show him what must shortly come to pass in the future. Because if we fail to understand the things we need to know that we might understand the message, we’ll miss understand, and miss interpret the information John is describing.
According to the message and vision, one of the first things we need to consider and know as we go through the book of Revelation is that the Revelation John received is a message Jesus sent by the hand of his angel to inform his friends of things that will shortly come to pass. And the other thing we need to consider is that the message sent by the hand of the angel is for the benefit and preparedness of his people.
The third thing we need to consider as we read through the book of Revelation, is that the things John saw were to shortly come to pass, and furthermore, John was bearing record of the things he saw in the vision the angel showed him. The message was not to reveal who Jesus was, but a message of hope and God’s revealed plan that should help his people prepare for what is to be poured out against the world.
In light of this revelation, John made the statement, “Blessed is he that reads and they that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” And what John was communicating is that those reading and understanding the message sent by the hand of the angel will be blessed, if they keep what is written down.
Anyone can read the message sent by the hand of the angel, but understanding what is being communicated, and preparing for what is to shortly come to pass upon the earth will produce the blessing that comes with reading the plan of God. For what has been revealed is not for us to sit idly by doing nothing to prepare for what is to come, but for the people of God to prepare for God’s unfolding plan that will affect everyone in the world.
As a result, we are to understand the warnings, the urgency, and need for the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, knowing the will of God is for mankind to inherit his promise, and if we love the Lord, we will proclaim his message to save the people he loved.
It was for this reason Jesus sent us out into the world to preach the gospel to every creature because the whole mission of Jesus is to save his people from their sins in addition to defeating the enemy who is an enemy of the human soul. And because he is bringing judgment upon and against his enemies, he sent us out to warn the world that they might through the word of God prepare and save their lives.
