So, who were the trees of the garden, instead, of what were the trees of the garden is our question today? Well, from what we know, the trees are individuals, one possessing the fruits of life, and the other the fruits of good and evil Adam called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Now, how did we come by this understanding, it all goes back to who wrote this part of the bible, and what took place to have left him broken, and his future of eternal life stolen.
Adam was telling us a story, God made him, and after creating all things gave Adam rule over the things he had made with his own hands. But at some point in his life, Adam fell for a trap, he followed the advice of the serpent who deceived his wife, a deception that led to his downfall.
Now, this is important to know because it will help us understand the rest of the bible giving us the tools we need to interpret the scriptures. In Genesis 3:1, Adam wrote, and when he wrote about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the fruit he ate from the tree that led to his downfall. After realizing what had happened, and after losing out on his eternal inheritance. Adam in his statement did not dare use the name of the one who deceived him, instead, Adam called him a serpent.
Now, why did Adam call Lucifer a serpent, and instead used the name serpent to describe him? Let us think about this, it was because he was angry, and had grown to hate Lucifer for what he had done. Therefore, in the mind of Adam, Lucifer is a serpent because of his deceitful nature.
In the dictionary, the word serpent is defined as either “a large snake, a sly, or a treacherous person, especially one who exploits a position of trust in order to betray.” And not understanding the language being used in the bible, we took the first approach to say the temper was a large snake, but if we were to look at the nature of Lucifer, we can now see that Adam in his anger saw him as a treacherous person who took advantage of a position of trust to overturn Adam’s position in the eyes of God.
Now, with that said, we can conclude, the trees in the garden were the one who gives life called the tree of life, Jesus our Christ, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is the deceiver Lucifer. And that is because the counsel of Lucifer would lead to rebellion and death the reason God wanred us not to follow his counsel.
God warned Adam not to obey his counsel, for in the day he should follow the counsel of Lucifer, he shall surely die. And because that was the outcome, Adam was angry and, in his story telling is helping us understand what took place and why he called Lucifer a serpent and his counsel evil that came from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil Lucifer himself the bearer of bad fruits.
