Sons of God

Today I would like to talk about who we are in the kingdom of God because it is important, we understand who we are and begin to see ourselves the way God sees us. We need to understand we came to Christ not because we were wise, or because we stumble upon God’s word, we came to Jesus Christ because God had from the beginning gave birth to us, meaning we were his sons.

At no point were we every not God’s sons, the reason we see ourselves as becoming God’s sons is because of the fall and rebellion of mankind. We need to understand because of Adam’s rebellion we were born into the world separated from God, we had no idea who our father was until we heard the truth.

Adam knew God, he understood who his Father was, but because of his sin and rebellion we were born and placed under rule of sin. And because we were born under the leadership of sin we were directed by a life of sin and rebellion. Because we were born separated from God, we saw him as a stranger, we saw him as someone we need to avoid, and because we did this, we never took the time to learn from him.

Viewing God as a stranger, we avoided his word, we viewed him as a liar, but when God himself came revealing himself and proving his love for us, we responded to his voice. The scripture told us, John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” And because we are, and were God’s sheep from the beginning John wrote:

John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

From the beginning, it was in God’s mind to give birth to children, and because it was his plan, he told Adam to be fruitful and multiply. God had created the earth as our dwelling, an inheritance for his children, but when they were cut off from him, he came revealing himself that we might respond to our Father.

We were always God’s children, at no point in time were we never his own and because we are his own, we are responding to God’s call to return to him that he might restore us in his kingdom and that we might come into our inheritance.

Psalms 24:1 “The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” And because this is the truth, we need to change the way we think and speak of ourselves because we are and was always God’s son.
