Hello everyone, and welcome back to another podcast in our series on the book of Psalm one titled “Ungodly Counsel.” And in today’s podcast, we will seek to answer the question “Why was the righteous avoiding the counsel of the ungodly?” In relationship to verse one of the Psalm. And learning that a blessing is the end result of what we do in light of scripture, we can now understand why the righteous in Psalm one is considered blessed. And it is because of the actions he took when he came across the law of God.
But for us to understand why the righteous are taking steps to avoid the counsel of the ungodly, we must first uncover what the counsel of the ungodly was and is. And to do that we must go back in history and then forward back to the days of the righteous man to understand just why he is avoiding the counsel of the ungodly.
Let’s begin with what we call the original sin of man. And as we look into this subject on the original sin of man most of us will quickly jump to the general answer that the original sin of man was disobedience. However, that is a bit too general. Because for us to truly understand why the righteous man is avoiding the counsel of the ungodly, we need to go political on this subject.
The original sin of man according to the bible in a more political sense is rebellion. Now that is dealing with the past, and as we move forward into the days of the righteous man and the future to come, the counsel of the ungodly is to also rebel against God. And we know this because of what the bible has revealed.
The bible told us God created the heavens and the earth and as he comes to the end of creating, God did something amazing later. He placed his kingdom and creation in the hands of man, God in essence made man his coregent king in his, that is God’s kingdom. And having given man this kind of authority, God set down rules that man would later break in rebellion against God, in an attempt to overthrow God to become sole ruler over the works of God.
Now, understanding this was the ongoing counsel and plan of the ungodly, the righteous man is avoiding or rejecting the counsel of the ungodly, therefore, as we read Psalm one, we can get some idea why the righteous is avoiding the counsel of the ungodly we believe is a counsel to rebel against God.
Psalms 83:2-3 “For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people and consulted against thy hidden ones.” And as the ungodly prepare themselves to advance against the kingdom of God, God is preparing himself to answer them in his wrath.
Psalms 83:13-15 “O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So, persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.”
