Planted by Rivers

This entry is part 8 of 12 in the series Psalm one

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode in our podcast and series on the book of Psalm one titled Preparing for the Season. Today’s podcast is titled, “Planted by Rivers.” And in today’s podcast, we are going to answer the question, “Why was the righteous said to be planted by rivers of water?”

And looking back at our last episode, we took some time to see that the righteous were both taking delight in the law of God and meditating on the law of God because it was God’s instruction on how to prepare for God’s response to the counsel of the ungodly.

And as he meditates on the law of God, the righteous are making preparation according to God’s instruction or the law of God, and by doing that, he is preparing for the season of God’s vengeance against the counsel of the ungodly.

Now, we know the counsel of the ungodly is to rebel against God, and part of their plan in their rebellion is to destroy the people of God. Psalm two verses two and three reads, “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bonds in pieces, and cast away their cords from us.” And in response to their violent acts against his people, the response of God is to take vengeance against the nations.

Coming across this revelation, the righteous are both rejecting the counsel of the ungodly, and he is taking delight in the law of God, and as he delights himself in the law of God, he is wasting no time in preparing for the coming season of God’s wrath, or the day of vengeance. Because according to Psalm 2:4-5He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: The Lord shall hold them in contempt. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath and vex them in his sore displeasure.”

And seeing that this day is fast approaching, the righteous is said to be planted by rivers of water because of the preparations he made according to the law. And God’s grace to have revealed what was to be in the future against the counsel of the ungodly. And with that said, we now know the righteous took interest in the law of God because it has to do with him escaping God’s wrath and judgment against the counsel of the ungodly.

And because of what God has revealed, and the reason why we are called to repentance, it’s because God through his son Jesus Christ is offering us the opportunity to escape the penalty of sin and the judgment that is pronounced against the sinful.

John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

And because God will punish sin, human rebellion and will not turn away from his wrath against the wicked. God sent Jesus into the world to prepare us against the day of vengeance upon his return, and if we should prepare according to God’s word, we’ll bring forth fruit in the season of judgment as God makes way for us through his son Jesus Christ.

Well, thank you for joining us today, and we hope you will join us again next time as we continue on our journey through Psalm chapter one.

What is True Faith?

Faith is not to know what God said in his word, it is to know what God said in his word and acting on what we know to be true. To believe is not what we say, it is what we do, and by acting on God’s word we will secure his blessing.
