Blessed are the poor who is choosing to turn away from the world to accept the blessing of God because the world is passing away along with its lust to establish for itself a kingdom without God. Because the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is the world’s desire to build a kingdom of their own without God.
This, however, is not a new idea, in fact, it is a very old one going back to the generations of Adam, who was led to believe they could overthrow God and take the kingdom of God as their own. And what we are calling the original sin. It is the old idea of us establishing a kingdom without God, a kingdom of our own.
But what we did not learn according to 1 John 2:16-17 and what we are being reminded of in this generation is, that at every turn, and in every century, and for thousands of years, God has been overthrowing those empires that have risen up against his kingship and the coming kingdom of his son Jesus?
The Hettie Kingdom was one of the first and great empires on the earth to have risen up against Christ, followed by the Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman, and in our century the Ottoman empire that was defeated in world war one receiving a deadly wound to its head and government.
And in the final days to come, and because of the raging of the world, God will finally put a complete end to lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of the world who is currently planning to destroy and challenge the authority and might of Christ.
God will truly put an end to their plans, this great old idea that we can without God sustain our lives, this idea that we don’t need God, therefore, as men of the world, we are lusting after the kingdom of God and wanting to rule over it without God are not aware we will perish.
Therefore, when 1 John 2:16-17 speaks of a perishing world that is passing away, we should ask ourselves why? And following that question we should also ask how this world will pass away to be replaced with the kingdom of God; or be uprooted by the kingdom of God.
Because the theme of the bible is about a perishing world and why we should abandon the world; and is also the reason why God is sharing these things with us. It is because his desire is for us to escape, and or inherit his kingdom.
The lust of the world is empire, the establishment of an empire without God. And their plan is to destroy everything that has God’s signature on it. Their plan is to take the kingdom away, and out of the hands of God. And the supporting scripture we will use to confirm this can be found in Psalm 2:1-3.
Psalm 2:1-3 reads, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” This is God’s question to the world, and in light of Isaiah 9:6, when God sent his Son into the world to claim his kingdom, the world took the opportunity to slay him believing they had achieved their goal.
However, they were foolish to not have accepted God’s offer, and are planning to destroy the remnant of God’s people. But taking notice of their plans and moving toward destroying their intent, God is asking why are they lusting after such evil things?
Psalms 2:2-3 “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands in pieces, and cast away their cords from us.”
What the world doesn’t seem to understand is that God is determined to establish his kingdom under the leadership of his son Jesus Christ. And coming back to Isaiah 9:7, this is why the world is perishing because as they are planning to destroy the remnant of God’s people. God on the other hand is taking steps to put in place of this world his coming kingdom.
While the world is planning to destroy the remnant of his people, God is taking steps to put the kingdom of his son in the hands of his people who will inherit his blessing, the offer he made to the poor man in Matthew 5:3.
Isaiah 9:7 “ Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from now on even forever.” And according to Isaiah whom I believe, God is dead set and determined to do just that. “The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
