The Passing World {2}

This entry is part 3 of 15 in the series Psalm one

What will happen to those seeking to establish a kingdom without Christ and that is in rebellion against God? 1 John 2:16-17 is clear on the subject. It is reporting that the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of the world will pass away” which is the world’s desire and plan to establish a kingdom in opposition to the kingship of Jesus Christ. That desire, kingdom, and dream will die.

However, the promise we have is that if we seek the kingdom of Jesus Christ, a kingdom governed by the love and will, and pleasure of Jesus Christ, we shall have all the things we desire according to Matthew 6:33. That is the beauty of this world, God’s creation, and the joy that comes with the kingdom of God without the pain and sufferings we see today because this kingdom the ungodly is trying to hold on to will be taken out of their hands.

The lust of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life are the plans of the world to live under the sinful nature of Adam and to establish a kingdom in opposition to Jesus Christ. The plan of the world is to rebel against Jesus Christ and his kingdom, the kingdom we are to first seek.

And because this was and is a realization on the part of the blessed man in Psalm one, he is rejecting the counsel of the ungodly because he understood full well the desire and plans the wicked have in mind will perish along with those pursuing the desires and pleasures of a sinful and rebellious kingdom in opposition to the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Psalms 2:1-4 reads,Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: The Lord shall have them in derision.” And because the Lord shall hold them in contempt, the blessed man is preparing himself for the coming kingdom of God and therefore are rejecting the counsel of the ungodly.

The counsel of the ungodly is the lust of the world and the lust of the flesh which is the sinful nature of mankind and their rebellion to establish a kingdom and empire without God. Their desire is to take the kingdom away from God, and their plan to achieve their goal is to destroy the citizens of God’s coming kingdom.

Psalm 83:4-5, They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederates against thee:” And as we Gentiles untie with Israel through the covenant of Jesus Christ as becoming one new man in Christ, we alongside Israel are becoming a kingdom unto God; and the target of the kingdoms of the world.

However, comprehending that to oppose and persecute the nation and people of God is a vain thing to consider and act on, the blessed man in Psalm one is avoiding this foolish counsel of the nations. He is rejecting the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of the world, which is their refusal to repent of their plans and rebellion. And because he knows the kingdoms of the world will become the kingdom of God, he is taking steps to escape the wrath of God to come against a rebelling world.

The current system and government standing over the people and nations of this world are passing away, it will pass away with its lust and desires, and when it does, the memory of it will be no more in remembrance, and those who seek it will not find one remnant of it in the earth.

Daniel 2:44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.” And because the kingdom of God will stand forever, the blessed man is wise to have rejected the counsel of the ungodly.

A day has been appointed against the world, however, God has sent his word out into the world through the hands of his disciples, his people, and it is to warn the world to repent so that they might avoid perishing in the Day of the Lord.
