Governors of the King

This entry is part 3 of 1 in the series The Ambassadors
  • Governors of the King

So, God is determined to establish an eternal kingdom for his Son Jesus the Messiah, but how will Christ’s government and kingdom be established and or increase in the earth? Well, speaking with his disciples, Jesus said in connection with Isaiah 9:7. Matthew 28:18. “All power is given unto Me in Heaven and on earth.” And upon reading these things, it should have established in our minds Christ is the judge of all the earth and having this authority he has the right to appoint those he will to his government.

Now, we may have understood this to be so and it is popular among many Christians, Jesus has sent us out into the world to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. But using the term gospel may have overshadowed the actual mission on which we are sent.

Reading Mathew 28:19, we see Jesus appointing his disciples to the mission of the kingdom because of the authority he has both in heaven and in the earth, and clarifying this with his disciples before sending them out into the world was an important point on Jesus’s part because what Jesus was saying to his disciples and us today was that he is the king of all the earth and he was sending them out among the nations to offer the nations his terms for their surrender.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” In other words, we as disciples of Christ are to make of all the nations on earth disciples, and upon the people of the nations becoming disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to confirm upon them the authority of the kingdom. That’s why we are to baptize them in the name, and or authority of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Because we are confirming upon the people the responsibility of Christ’s kingdom and government to execute his will in the earth.

This may not have been the thing we thought of when we first read these statements and verses of Matthew, but in all truth, we are sent on a mission to build up the kingdom and government of Jesus Christ, and to execute God’s wrath against the empires of the world. Our appointment to go and proclaim the message of the kingdom of Jesus the Messiah was confirmed in Psalm 149:4. It reads, For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.” And because he sees that we are faithful as citizens of his kingdom he is pleased with us and will rescue his people from the persecution of the governments that are standing in opposition to his message as king of all the earth, and his coming kingdom.

Now, becoming a part of Christ’s government, we are to teach the nations, we are accountable unto God through his Son to make disciples, and to teach the nations. And to be placed in this position of a teacher over the nations is revealing that the nations are under the authority of the disciples of Christ. We are to teach them to observe all things whatsoever Christ commands us.

Jesus spoke these words of authority to his disciples, Matthew 10:40He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.” Because he has appointed us with authority over his kingdom; therefore, we are accountable to God and the kingdom of Christ. And sending his disciples out with this authority, the promise we have from the king is his support in enforcing his rule in the earth. He said, “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Understanding these things, it should now be clear, the government of Christ will increase through the proclamation of the gospel and the accountability of Christ’s disciples who will with the help of Christ execute God’s judgment in the earth.
