After reading the bible and coming to faith in Jesus, it is not a new thing even among unbelievers that we are heading toward a final count down before judgment. Among believers, we are to be preparing for the second coming of Jesus Christ. But among the world, those believing in science, for them, the universe will one day return to its original state at which time human life as we know it will perish.
However, regardless of how we are viewing the world, the reality we share is that the world will one day come to an end, but when we speak of the world, we are to understand we are talking about our human system of government and the way we live our lives, and not the planet earth itself according to the bible.
In the mind of science, the planet and our universe will one day implode destroying life on earth. And again, regardless of how we are viewing the end of the world, we are sharing with unbelievers a common story, and that common story is that we are heading for judgment.
Unbelievers may not see this coming end as God’s judgment against a sinful world because, in their minds, there is no God, but how foolish is it for them to think this. And because they have rejected the truth, they are failing to realize that the end of the world by and through natural disasters are the hand of God at work against them.
Nevertheless, among believers in Jesus Christ our soon coming king, we know the hand of God is revealed through the works of his hands, and that the condemnation spoken of in John 3:17 is dealing with the reality of human rejection of Jesus Christ.
The scripture reads in John 3:17-18, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world because he cares for the people on the earth. God instead sent Jesus into the world to save the world, but the scripture has also revealed that only those believing in the authority of Jesus shall be saved. The unbelieving will not be saved, and the reason they will perish it is because they have rejected the direction of Jesus Christ.
This is why the scripture reads, “He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already” The unbelieving man has condemned himself, and the reason and how he has condemned himself it’s because he is rejecting the direction of God through Jesus Christ on how to prepare that he might escape God’s wrath revealed through his created work.
Now, this is the other part of the story we are missing, the reality the world is already under condemnation. John told us; Jesus came not into the world to condemn the world, but in the minds of many it seems to suggest the world is not currently under condemnation.
However, if we were to listen carefully, we will realize Jesus came not into the world to condemn the world because the world is already under condemnation which is why the scripture speaks of him coming to save the world. “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world” it is already under condemnation, but that the world through him might be saved.”
There is no need for Jesus to condemn the world, it is already under condemnation, and because of the condemnation resting on the world those rejecting Jesus is already condemned because they are living in a world that is already condemned. So, living in this world and seeing all the signs we are heading toward a total fall, both the believer and the unbeliever are aware of this condemnation.
But how can we escape this coming judgment appointed by God? For the believer it is by obeying the direction of Jesus Christ because those coming to Christ will be directed on what to do so that they can escape the wrath of God to come. But in the meantime, and until they surrender to Jesus the king, the unbeliever is currently condemned and will fall should they refuse to accept Christ as their savior.
Let also not forget, God at any moment can announce the judgment because we are living in a sinful world and God is always ready to judge a world full of sinful men. Psalm 7:11-13 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turns not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow and has made it ready. He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he has ordained his arrows against the persecutors.” Nevertheless, those believing in Jesus the king shall escape with their lives.
